Arizona?s Fiercest Creatures

As the fire blazes on, the Phoenix Suns mascot prepares for his brave slam dunk jump thru a smokin’ hot ring. No, it’s not an aggressive tiger mascot jumping that ring, it’s Go the Gorilla. Fans Go the Gorilla. Fans go silly for this primate, and it’s widely known why. The Suns mascot is one of the gutsiest, most entertaining and highly charitable mascots in the nation. Word has it this Phoenix Suns mascot was born from a singing telegraph sent to the arena back in 1980. The fans liked him so much, the Suns decided to adopt the hairy fellow. Go is still heating up the stadium to this day.

Although Arizona was disappointed at first at Baxter’s arrival to the Diamondbacks, they quickly grew to like the gigantic loveable Bobcat. The good people of Arizona thought it only fitting that a snake should represent the team name, but Baxter has shown them otherwise. If you put a lion and tiger mascot together, you’d know what D. Baxter looks like. His full name, D.

Seattle Supersonics – A History

On December 20, 1966, Los Angeles businessmen Sam Schulman and Eugene V. Klein and a group of minority partners were awarded the NBA franchise for the city of Seattle. Schulman would serve as the active partner and head of team operations. Named the SuperSonics, they were Seattle’s first professional sports franchise. Beginning play in October of 1967, the SuperSonics were coached by Al Bianchi and featured All-Star guard Walt Hazzard and All-Rookie Team members Bob Rule and Al Tucker. The expansion team stumbled to a 23-59 record, and Hazzard was traded to the Atlanta Hawks before the start of the next season for future Hall-of-Famer Lenny Wilkens. Wilkens brought a strong all-around game to the SuperSonics, averaging 22.4 points per game, 8.2 assists per game, and 6.2 rebounds per game for Seattle in the 1968-69 season. Rule, meanwhile, improved on his rookie statistics with 24.0 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game. The SuperSonics, however, only won 30 games

The Braves make the NBA Playoffs ho-hum

The Braves make the NBA Playoffs nothing to me.

Boring and commercialized beyond belief. The fact that our own Phoenix Suns have been eliminated because they couldn’t play defense…

Well, they all should have learned from the Phoenix Indian School Braves.

At the property that is now Indian School Steele Park, northeast of the intersection of east Indian School Road and north Central Avenue, was the Phoenix Indian School.

Now I know the name of the park is the Steele Indian School Park, but to those of us who were once part of the Phoenix Indian School, it is, we think, Stolen Indian School Park but that’s a whole different story.

The property of the Phoenix Indian School was once much larger than the 75 acres sold off by the federal government another promise broken to Indian people, of course, to private commercial interests with the proviso that they remand a certain portion of the

Arizona Winter Getaways – From Golfing to Shopping

Got an itch to travel this winter, but not sure where to go? How about a place where you can find great hiking, golfing, skiing, shopping, and ruins to explore? And, all within a few hours drive of one another? Of course that place is Arizona, a state that offers travelers an endless array of things to do in the winter.

Hiking

Superstition Mountains: One of the best places for winter hiking in Arizona is The Superstition Mountains, just east of Apache Junction, which is east of Phoenix. They are best known for the fabled Lost Dutchman Mine. Legend has it that the mine, discovered by Jacob Waltz (the Dutchman), still contains a great stash of gold. That is, if anyone could find it. You can be among the many who have tried to find the mine (some have died trying), or, you can be among the many more who venture to the Superstition Mountains in search of great hiking. Be sure to visit Lost Dutchman State Park, where you will find a variety
